Meet the Nuvolari: Audi’s 1,001-Horsepower Masterpiece

Every once in a while, the engineers in Ingolstadt decide to stop playing nice and remind the entire automotive industry what happens when they go all-out. Three years after we said a tearful goodbye to the legendary R8, Audi just revealed the ultimate hyper-hybrid: The Audi Nuvolari.

And before you ask, NO, it is not named after the evil vampires from the Twilight movies. Those are Volturi.

THIS is the Nuvolari, named after “The Flying Mantuan” himself, Italian racing car driver Tazio Nuvolari who has a long history with Audi dating back to 1938.

After a tragic incident with their former driver, Auto Union (Audi’s direct historical ancestor) needed a replacement driver that could handle the ferocious nature of their powerful Formula One race car.

Hey, we’re talking over 500 horsepower in the 1930s before the era of Anti-Lock Brakes and all these fancy assists we all have now. That’s mighty impressive.

Enter Tazio Nuvolari from Italy.

And by this point, Tazio was already considered an “older driver past his prime” driving in a style of race car he was NOT experienced with…..and yet?

Historical footage of Tazio Nuvolari

Nuvolari mastered the mid-engine supercharged machine instantly and went on to win the Formula One Italian Grand Prix at Monza and the Formula One British Grand Prix at Donington Park for the German team.

Ferdinand Porsche (yeah THAT Porsche) was so awestruck by Tazio Nuvolari’s control of Auto Union’s race car that he famously called Nuvolari the Greatest Driver of the Past, the Present, and the Future.”

Fast forward to today, and Audi is paying that legendary spirit back in full.

The 2027 Audi Nuvolari is a direct, unapologetic tribute to that mid-engine racing heritage. Audi’s design team wanted it to look like it was honed out of a solid block of metal—a pure, architectural masterpiece that honors history while completely shattering the modern supercar rulebook.

And oh man, the numbers would make Tazio proud.

  1. The Heart: a screaming Lamborghini-sourced Twin-Turbo 4.0-Liter V8 engine paired with not one, not two, but THREE cutting-edge electric motors.

  2. The Output: A mind-altering 1,001 horsepower putting it dead even with the legendary Bugatti Veyron, one of the most legendary production cars.

  3. The Launch: With a V8 that can redline at 10,000 RPM, you and the Nuvolari can hit 60 MPH in just 2.6 seconds; And reach over 120 MPH in just under 7 seconds.

Translation: this thing RIPS!

Only 499 of these hyper-hybrids will be built globally. While you might not see one doing the daily commute through the I-4 construction zones every day, you will start seeing them in the USA sometime in 2027 so keep your eyes peeled and let us know if you want one!

Seriously.

Meet the All-New 2027 Audi Q7 🏋️

2027 Audi Q7 (Euro model)

While the 1,001-Horsepower Audi Nuvolari is dominating everyone’s track dreams, the vehicle that actually runs our daily lives just got its most radical evolution in nearly a decade.

Audi just pulled back the curtain on the completely redesigned, 3rd-Gen 2027 Audi Q7.

And guess what? It has officially swapped its understated wagon lines for a serious injection of muscle.

Now, the 2027 Audi Q7 owns a commanding, upright stance featuring prominently-flared wheel arches, a MASSIVE front grille, and a roofline that sits nearly 3 inches taller.

2027 Audi SQ7

What’s more, Audi completely threw out the old entry-level 4-cylinder turbo engine for the Q7. Now, every single 2027 Q7 comes standard with serious pedigree under the hood in the form of an all-new 2.9-liter Twin-Turbo V6.

Oh and that V6 is good for -checks notes- Best In Class 429 Horsepower. That’s up nearly 100 ponies from last year, by the way (but who’s keeping track?)

Need even more ridiculous speed? The high-performance 2027 SQ7 is arriving around the same time, packing an absolute monster of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that’s capable of pumping out a heart-thumping 591 Horsepower.

How does zero to 60 mph in about 3.7 seconds sound?

Am I serious? Yes, in a 3-Row SUV no less.

Vorsprung durch technik indeed.
